1.What is the kinematic difference between CNC deburring and wide belt sanding?
Although wide belt sanders and industrial CNC deburring machines share similar mechanical structures, their impact on workpiece tolerances and edge geometry is quite different.
A wide belt sander uses a flat abrasive belt for linear grinding. It is effective for bulk thickness calibration and removing large vertical burrs, but it comes with risks such as altering critical part dimensions, creating sharp secondary burrs and stripping protective zinc or galvanized coatings from metal sheet edges. Therefore, it is not suitable for precise edge rounding.
In contrast, a CNC deburring machine uses flexible rotating multi-axis brushes that dynamically adapt to irregular contours. It can reach into internal cutouts, cross-drilled holes, and complex slots, delivering uniform and repeatable edge rounding without affecting the overall flatness, nominal thickness, or surface coating of the base material.

During heavy-duty processing, workpieces often have multiple types of defects on the surface or edges at the same time. To achieve a flawless and burr-free metal surface, customized modular brushing and sanding heads need to be integrated into a single continuous processing pass. Based on industry classifications for burr levels, we recommend the following configurations:
Slag Removal Stage
Using a heavy-duty abrasive belt head or a heavy-duty slag removal hammer module, the system removes thick slag, dross and hardened residues left by plasma cutting, flame cutting or high-power laser cutting.
Finishing and Rounding Stage
After the heavy slag is removed, high-speed rotary disc brushes or roller brush modules are used to remove feather burrs and micro-burrs from the material surface. This ensures that all finished parts are completely safe to handle and have perfectly rounded edges.
3.How to choose tool geometry, roller brush or rotary disc?
The choice between a roller brush and a rotary disc depends entirely on your workpiece geometry and production goals.
A roller brush is ideal for flat materials such as linear stainless steel or aluminum sheets. By applying linear contact pressure, the roller brush delivers fast and efficient linear edge rounding. This configuration is best suited for creating directional surface finishes such as linear textures or brush lines.
A rotary disc, on the other hand, typically features a multi-spindle design and is specifically designed for complex nested parts. Its multiple rotating heads move along overlapping, multi-axis paths, providing uniform 360-degree brush coverage. This allows the tool to reach into internal cutouts, slots and punched holes. For this reason, the rotary disc is the ideal choice for parts requiring multi-directional and three-dimensional edge rounding.
4.How to prevent material cross-contamination when processing SS304 and SS316L?
When processing different materials on the same machine, using the wrong brush can cause serious structural damage. Carbon steel particles left from previous processing may become embedded in stainless steel or aluminum, leading to galvanic corrosion, surface oxidation and rust. Therefore, engineers must strictly enforce material-specific brush segregation.
For carbon steel, high-strength carbon steel wire brush is ideal for burr removal. For SS304/SS316L and aluminum, a light-duty non-ferrous brush must be used. Engineers should switch to stainless steel wire or nylon filaments impregnated with silicon carbide or ceramic abrasives.
